2008 is the third year for China to implement the 11th five-year plan that will last until 2010. Industry restructuring and technology innovation are two key words to lead the nation¡¯s economy growth. The Chinese government is taking tight strategy to control the overheated economy to avoid further inflation. However, negative impact can hit electronics product demand in domestic market and export market. Ministry Restructuring: Next China Electronics Focuses
China formed the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) to replace the current Ministry of Information Industry (MII). The new MIIT, effective in April, consolidates the IT administration functions of a couple of different government bodies in order to build IT foundations for cross-industry sectors and to help electronics, automation, and computing penetration. Since the new government body will promote information technology much beyond the electronics industry, new market demand can be better seen as the proverbial iceberg above sea level. LED Lighting Market Demand
Street lights have become a hot spot since LED lights have to break into the market at a point which is not very cost sensitive. With energy conservation target, the Chinese government urges the development of new energy sources and energy saving devices. These companies can receive tax incentives and government funds for new product development. China¡¯s IPTV Standard¡ªAVS on Progress
China¡¯s homegrown IPTV standard - AVS (Advanced Video System) has shown some interesting developments recently. China Netcom announced a trial-run AVS based IPTV network launch in February in Dalian, Liaoning province. The trial-run covers 15K subscribers with growth potential in 2008 due to the Olympic Games.
