TD-SCDMA Handset Market Forecast
China Mobile will place orders for 3 million TD-SCDMA handsets before the year end. Eighteen handset OEMs will compete for the US$800 million business, but only seven OEMs look to survive—Samsung and LG Electronics will win due to their deep involvement in TD-SCDMA development. Meanwhile, local handset makers such as Lenovo, ZTE Corp, Huawei Technology…will aggressively compete for their shares of the pie. COC analysts summarized market demands for semiconductors and components from TD-SCDMA handset functions, and discussed MBBMS(Mobile Broadcasting Business Management System) and four content encryption schemes in China(CMMB, DVB-H, DMB, and CDMB). COC analysts also forecasted that TD-MBMS and DMB will top market share in 2008 and 2009 due to established trial-run network infrastructure and joint responsibility effort.
