Hisense wins US$200 million panel display TV order from CES(Jan 17, 2005)
China’s leading TV maker Hisense (Qingdao, Shandong) just got US$200 million panel display TV orders at CES, the world’s largest consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.

These orders came from 8 agents in Europe and North America, 70% of these orders are LCD TVs. Since last June, Hisense has promoted its panel display TV to the global market, the company target becoming the major supplier of panel TV in the global market in 2007.

During this event in Las Vegas, Hisense has shown 40 LCD TV models with size from 15 inch to 42 inch in 1600 square feet exhibition area.

Taygate teams with Intel on net game software(Jan 17, 2005)
Taygate Information Technology Development (Xiamen,Fujian) recently signed an agreement with Intel to jointly develop net game software in next three years.

During this three-year exclusive cooperation, the two companies will develop products together by using the brand of “Intel-Taygata”. Intel will be responsible for technical support, products sales in Europe and North America, and tie the brand products in the packages of chips, boards and other computer products.

Both parties regarded this cooperation as a win-win strategy.

China to have 753 million phone users in 2005(Jan 17, 2005)
China expects to have 753 million phone users till the 2005 end. As a result, China needs to add 45 million fixed line subscribers and 58 million mobile phone subscribers in 2005, making the penetration rate of 27.6% and 30% respectively.

Till the 2004 end, China has 316 million fixed line users and 334 million mobile phone users, up 53% and 65% YOY respectively, based on the MII report.

The 3G license that will be issued in 2005 definitely will boost the growth of phone users in China.

China’s telecommunication business hits US$63.8bn (Jan 10, 2005)
China’s telecommunication business reached sales revenue of US$63.8bn from Jan to Nov, 2004, according to the Ministry of Information Industry (MII). The data showed 12% YOY growth.

The MII announced that China has 643.08 million phone users as a whole, including 313.16 million fixed-line subscribers and 329.92 million mobile phone users.

From Jan to Nov, China has increased 110.38 million phone users with 50.41million fixed-line users and 59.97 million mobile phone users.

The growth of “Xiaolingtong” users accounted for 54.8% of new fixed-line subscribers in the same period, reaching 64.94 million users. Xiaolingtong can also be called as “Little Smart”, an application of PHS technology.

Alcatel Shanghai Bell partners with Holdfast (Jan 10, 2005)
Alcatel Shanghai Bell and Shanghai Holdfast online information Technology, one of the top online game service providers in China, announced their partnership to enhance broadband entertainment development in China.

Under the partnership agreement, Alcatel Shanghai Bell will offer an integrated broadband solution to China's telecom operators, which includes Alcatel Shanghai Bell's industry-proven DSL solutions and Holdfast's gaming access suites. As a result, operators will be able to offer their broadband subscribers free access to Holdfast's online platform.

Zhejiang Telecom, with over two million broadband subscribers, became the first beneficiary of the partnership by receiving 10,000 sets of gaming access suites for immediate deployment over its broadband network. Alcatel Shanghai Bell has supplied 1.05 million DSL lines to Zhejiang Telecom since the year of 2000.

China to become the world’s largest IC market (Jan 10, 2005)
IC Insight forests that China’s IC market is to grow 11% to US$34.3bn in 2005, making the country the largest regional IC market in the world.

Based on the IC studies of IC Insight, from 2001 to 2004, the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of Chinese IC market is 46%, about 32% more than that of the America IC market. China expects to consume 20% IC of the world’s US$175.4bn IC in 2005, up 12% over the 2001.

Even though China-based IC production will rise to US$14.5bn in 2010, it will only represent 5% of the world IC production. Till that time, 85% of China’s IC consumption (about US$95bn) will still rely on imports.

China launches its IPV6 internet (Jan 3, 2005)
Chinese government recently announced in Beijing that CERNET2 (China Education and Research Network 2) would enter into fully operations.

CERNET2 is the first network based on pure Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) technology, one major characteristic between the current Internet and the next-generation Internet. CERNET2 is also the biggest next-generation Internet network in operation in the world and connects 25 universities in 20 cities. The speed in the backbone network reaches 2.5 to 10 gigabits per second and connects the universities at a speed of 1 to 10 gigabits per second.

Chinese local leading companies Huawei Technology and Tsinghua Bit-Way provided half of the key equipments including IPV6 routers.

Huawei gets US$10 bn credit line (Jan 3, 2005)
Huawei Technology (Shenzhen, Guangdong) will receive US$10 bn credit line from China Development Bank to expand overseas market in next five years, according to an agreement between China Development Bank and Huawei.

Starting from 1996, Huawei has set up its operations in 55 countries and sold its products in 77 countries. The company disclosed that its 2004 overseas sales revenue will bypass US$2bn, up 90% YOY.

China Development Bank has worked closely with Huawei for many years. It has helped Huawei’s many projects including the establishment of the R&D center, data collection center and test center, and the implementation of technology innovation project.

Changhong to report its loss (Jan 3, 2005)
Changhong Electric Co.(Mianyang, Sichuan), China’s leading TV maker has reported a huge loss because it couldn’t collect US$310 million from Apex Digital Inc, a US based company.

Based on Xinhua report, Apex couldn’t pay the owed money because of the loss it suffered when the United States imposed anti-dumping measures on color televisions made in China in April of 2004. Apex is losing money because it must now pay high fees for patent use.

To manage the difficult time, Changhong has received US$1.03 bn credit line from four state-owned commercial banks and US$483.67million from other banks.
